Protesters arrested during ‘Occupy Parliament’ refuse to back down, singing inside police cells.
Police on Tuesday arrested activists opposing the Finance Bill, 2024, part of the ‘Occupy Parliament’ protest. Among them were females bungled into waiting police trucks and driven to the Central Police Station.
Arrests Amid Demonstrations
In a show of defiance, protesters continued to demonstrate against the Bill inside holding cells with song and dance, telling the government they wouldn’t back down. They sang, “Wametuzoea! Wametuzoeaaa! Nani? Serikali, wametuzoeaa! Hatutakubali, hatutakubalii!”
Government Responds
President Ruto assures Kenyans their voices were heard, contentious clauses in Finance Bill dropped. The Finance Committee chaired by Kimani Kuria briefed the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group on dropped clauses, including proposed VAT on various items.
