Application Portal Announcement
The Ministry of Education has announced that the application portal for scholarships and loans for students joining universities and TVET institutions will officially open on Tuesday, June 18.
Public Holiday Consideration
On June 14, 2024, the Government declared Monday, June 17, 2024, a public holiday to mark Eid Al-Adha. “In solidarity with our Muslim fraternity, the Ministry of Education decided to move the portal opening date from Saturday, June 15, 2024, to Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to allow Kenyans ample time to prepare and celebrate Eid Al-Adha,” said Machogu.
Launch of Higher Education Financing Portal
On July 31, 2023, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu launched the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal. Through this portal, students can apply for scholarships, loans, and bursaries individually after receiving admission letters.
Student-Centered Funding Model
The funding model was created to channel higher education funds directly to individual students based on carefully curated criteria. This approach aims to ensure a fair and transparent distribution of resources, giving every student an equal opportunity to pursue higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply, students must have been placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). They must be pursuing an undergraduate, diploma, craft certificate, or artisan course at one of Kenya’s accredited public universities or TVET colleges. This ensures that only deserving students receive the financial support they need to further their education.
Encouraging Applications
The Ministry of Education encourages all eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for the available funding. By doing so, they can secure the financial support needed to pursue their academic and career goals. The ministry remains committed to supporting students and ensuring access to quality education for all.
Future Developments
The Ministry of Education continues to explore ways to improve the funding process for higher education. They are committed to addressing any challenges that may arise and to making the system more efficient and accessible for all students.
