Sirisia MP John Waluke Denounces Protests, Calls for Strong Action
Sirisia MP John Waluke
Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke has urged President William Ruto to take decisive action against those who use protests to destroy property and cause chaos. Speaking in Sirisia on Monday, Waluke warned that if not controlled, the protests could lead to the destruction of Kenya. He expressed concern that hooligans have hijacked the purpose of the Gen Z movement.
Waluke Questions Protesters’ Motives
“Is this country theirs? We were also once Gen Zs like them. Who do they think they are?” Waluke questioned. He emphasized that the president has a responsibility to protect the Constitution by ensuring that the law is upheld. Waluke urged the president not to allow the protests to continue.
Call to Cancel Protests
“Cancel everything, do not give these people room to hold protests. What are protests for? Even if it is in the Constitution, it can be barred because of destroying property,” Waluke stated. He accused lobby groups of sponsoring the protests and stressed the need for the president to act.
Support for President Ruto
“We are supporting Ruto to stop tomorrow’s (Tuesday) protests once and for all,” Waluke declared. The anti-government protests which have been taking place for over a month, typically occur on Tuesdays.
Planned Protest at JKIA
Today, protesters had planned to storm the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The situation remains tense as the government considers its next steps to address the ongoing unrest.
