Ruto Was Elected, Not Imposed

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria stated that President William Ruto can only be removed from office through an election. Kuria emphasized this point during an interview on Citizen TV’s JFK Live on Wednesday. He reiterated, “Ruto didn’t come, he was elected, and there is another election coming.”

Gen Z Must Use Their Voice

Kuria stressed the importance of the democratic process, urging Gen Z to use their numbers and voices at the ballot box. He noted, “People are saying Ruto must go, but Ruto didn’t come, he was elected, and another election is coming. The only way for Ruto to go is through the vote.” Kenya’s next elections are scheduled for 2027.

No Need for Coups or Violence

Kuria argued against resorting to coups and violence, which have plagued other African nations. He stated, “There is no need for the country to be plunged into coups and violence. It is not a joke but rather a lunatic expression.” He insisted that the democratic will of the people is the only legitimate way to send Ruto home. “Guys, look at the other side; it might appear romantic and good content, but it is not a joke,” he added.

Gen Z Protesters Demand Ruto’s Resignation

Gen Z protesters have chanted the ‘Ruto must go’ slogan on streets and social media. Among their demands, some have been addressed, but they continue to call for Ruto’s resignation.

Kuria Ready to Face Consequences

On July 3, Kuria expressed his readiness to face the consequences if the current Cabinet is dissolved. His statement followed calls from Senators for President Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet to address the country’s challenges. Kuria said, “If the jury says that Moses Kuria has to go home, I will be the first to say yes, we go home. But it is also high time that we also deliver.”

The Democratic Path Forward

Kuria’s statements underscore the importance of the democratic process in addressing political discontent. He urged citizens to engage in the electoral process and make their voices heard through voting. The next election will provide an opportunity for Kenyans to decide the future of their leadership, reaffirming the principle that leaders are elected by the people and can only be removed by the people.

Addressing the Challenges

In addressing the current political climate, Kuria highlighted the need for the government to deliver on its promises and address the challenges facing the nation. He acknowledged the calls for change but emphasized that any changes must come through lawful and democratic means.

Looking Ahead to 2027

As the country looks ahead to the 2027 elections, the emphasis remains on the democratic process. The voices of the people, especially the younger generation, will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Kenya’s leadership. Kuria’s message serves as a reminder that the power to effect change lies in the hands of the electorate.
