Judiciary Responds with Counselling Session

The Judiciary organized psycho-social counselling for Makadara Law Courts staff after a shooting incident.

Magistrate Targeted in Shooting

Magistrate Monicah Kivuti was shot by Londiani Police Station OCS Samson Kipchirchir on court premises. The incident occurred when she remanded his wife for violating bond terms.

Magistrate’s Condition Stable

Magistrate Kivuti is stable, prompting Chief Justice Martha Koome to close the court until next Monday. The closure aims to ensure staff’s safety and provide time for reflection.

Chief Registrar Addresses Staff

Chief Registrar Winfridah Mokaya met with judicial officers from Makadara at the Supreme Court building. She expressed concern over the traumatic event and emphasized support for affected staff.

Mokaya acknowledged the trauma caused by the shooting, expressing solidarity with Judiciary staff. She assured them of the organization’s commitment to their well-being.

Counselling Session Conducted

Psychologists from Chiromo Hospital, led by Dr. Rose Ngondi, provided counselling for the magistrates. The session aimed to help staff process the incident and cope with its aftermath.

Magistrate Tito Gesora and colleagues requested improved security measures and infrastructure at Makadara Law Courts. They emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for all.
