Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested six members of a notorious gang. This gang used women to spike the drinks of licensed gun holders in entertainment joints, subsequently stealing their firearms for other crimes.

Operation Details

The DCI-led operation took place in Nairobi’s Kayole, Umoja 3, and Kiamaiko estates on Friday. Four men and two women comprise the gang. DCI detectives in Nairobi initiated the pursuit after crime researchers identified a trend. Club-hopping women targeted licensed firearm holders, spiking their drinks and stealing their guns.

Arrests and Evidence

Forensics analysis played a crucial role in identifying the two women: Helen Njeri Kirika and Veronicah Ndunge Kioko. Police apprehended them at a rented house in Kayole, where they recovered 15 rounds of ammunition. The women’s interrogation led officers to their suspected accomplices.

Accomplices Apprehended

The officers first arrested Kevin Ngugi Mwangi and John Mwangi Matheri in Umoja 3. Then, they proceeded to Huruma kwa Chege, where they arrested Abdulaziz Duba Molu, also known as Zizo. After brief interrogations, Zizo disclosed the location of two stolen handguns: a Ceska and a Falcon. Officers recovered these firearms at a house in Kiamaiko.

Stolen Firearms Recovered

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Ceska pistol had been stolen from an inspector of police based at Mowlen Police Station in Kamukunji. The gang had accosted the officer at night on June 17, 2024. The DCI continues to document the exhibits, pending ballistic analysis.

The suspects, including a sixth person of interest, remain in custody. The DCI’s swift action and thorough investigation highlight their commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Nairobi.
