Call for Government Officials to Take Pay Cut
Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has urged President William Ruto, cabinet secretaries, and Members of Parliament to demonstrate solidarity with Kenyans amid tough economic times by taking a one-year pay cut.
Omondi emphasized the need for government officials, including the President, to reconsider the frequency of their trips, citing the significant financial burden they impose on taxpayers.
He questioned the value derived from certain foreign trips, particularly in comparison to the expenses incurred, urging the government to prioritize expenditures that yield tangible benefits for the country.

Reducing Excessive Travel Expenses
In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, Omondi highlighted the excessive travel undertaken by the President, stressing that it depletes resources that could be used to alleviate the high cost of living.
He specifically pointed out that President Ruto had embarked on 68 trips within six months, often accompanied by large delegations, raising concerns about the cost-effectiveness of such visits.
Expressing the need for accountability, Omondi emphasized the importance of rationalizing government spending and directing resources towards development initiatives that benefit the public.
Challenges to Government Spending
Omondi’s call for a temporary pay cut and reduced travel aims to address the economic challenges faced by ordinary Kenyans while promoting responsible governance and fiscal prudence.
He urged government officials to prioritize expenditures that have tangible benefits for the country, ensuring that taxpayer funds are utilized efficiently and effectively.
In advocating for reduced travel expenses, Omondi highlighted the need to strike a balance between official engagements and prudent financial management, especially during times of economic hardship.
