“Eyes Open as Gigantic Load Arrives at Kitale: Motorists Warned of Traffic Disruption”
Motorists and other travelers in Kitale have been alerted to an impending disruption on the roads as a colossal cargo makes its way from Mombasa to Malaba. The transportation, scheduled to span 32 days starting from Monday, February 26, until March 28, 2024, is expected to affect traffic along various routes.
A notice published in local newspapers by the logistics company responsible for the transportation advised road users to exercise caution and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. The cargo, whose specific details were not disclosed, will traverse through several towns and cities, including Kitale, as it moves towards its destination.
The route for the heavy-duty vehicles transporting the abnormal load includes a journey from Mombasa to Mariakani, Voi, Mtito Andei, Emali, Machakos Junction, Naivasha, Nakuru, Webuye, and finally arriving at Malaba. The cargo will be divided among four trucks, each with different dimensions and weights.
The dimensions of the trucks carrying the load were provided, with lengths ranging from 25.6 to 25.7 meters, widths between 3.35 to 4.2 meters, and heights from 5.5 to 5.6 meters. While the specifics of the cargo were not disclosed, it is typical for abnormal loads to include items such as boats, planes, military equipment, and heavy steel construction materials.
Currently, another logistics company, Sifa Investment Ltd, is also transporting heavy cargo from Mombasa to Malaba, with its journey expected to conclude on March 31. The arrival of these oversized loads has captured the attention of Kenyans, and their progress has led to traffic disruptions on major highways, including those passing through Kitale.
